What we collect, and what we don't.

Effective July 5, 2026.

The short version: we collect your email if you sign up for the newsletter, and your name plus whatever you type if you leave a comment. We also use a basic, cookie-free page-view counter so we know which articles are actually getting read. That's it. We don't run ads, and nobody's tracking you around the internet from here.

What we collect

If you subscribe to the newsletter — your email address, submitted directly to Buttondown, the third-party service that sends our emails. We don't see or store that address ourselves; Buttondown does, under its own privacy policy. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, any time, with one click.

If you leave a comment — the name you type and the text of the comment, stored in our database (Vercel Postgres). We don't require an email or any other verification to comment. Comments sit in a moderation queue before they go live, so we see them before anyone else does.

Page views — we use Vercel Web Analytics to see aggregate numbers like which articles get read and how much traffic the site gets overall. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and doesn't build a profile tied to you individually — it's counting visits, not people.

Standard server logs — like basically every website, our host (Vercel) automatically logs things like IP address and browser type for security and debugging. We don't access this for anything beyond that.

What we don't do

We don't sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers. We don't run ad networks or third-party trackers on this site. We don't have Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or anything similar installed — no cross-site tracking, no ad profiles, no data broker relationships.

If that changes — if we add anything that touches your data differently — we'll update this page and note the change below.

Third parties who touch your data

Buttondown (email delivery) holds your email address if you subscribe. Vercel (hosting, database, and page-view analytics) stores comment data, standard server logs, and anonymous page-view counts. If and when reader-support payments go live, they'll run through a payment processor (like Stripe or Ko-fi) that handles your payment details directly — we never see or store card numbers.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from the newsletter any time using the link in any email. Want a comment removed, or want to know exactly what we have on file for you? Email hello@itsthefuckingpoint.com and we'll handle it directly — there's no self-serve dashboard for this yet.

Kids

This site isn't directed at children, the writing isn't appropriate for them, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We won't do it quietly.
